7,500 take to the ice at Sure Skate
Over the Christmas period 7,500 people took to
the ice at the Sure Skate Ice Rink at Fort Regent between 18th
December – 5th January.
The rink was opened on 18th December by ITV’s
Dancing on Ice winner and former England rugby player Kyran Bracken
and in the first weekend alone 1,300 people came through the doors.
Over the following weeks the rink provided fun for families and
friends and a great escape from Christmas shopping.
The Chief Executive of Sure Jersey, Graham
Hughes said he was delighted that so many islanders had taken the
opportunity to use the rink this year.
“This is the first time that Sure have
sponsored rinks in three locations, here, Guernsey and the Isle of
Man and the continued take up in Jersey proves the popularity of
ice skating, especially during the festive season,” he said.
The rink, which took two days to install using
67,000 litres of frozen water, was enhanced by skating lessons
offered by professional skater, Florentine Houdiniere. It closed on
5th January.
Sure Skate was organised in conjunction with
Kyran Bracken’s Ice Party and sponsors Sure and Nokia Siemens
Networks. In the summer of 2009, Kyran’s Ice Party visited Jersey
alongside the Sure sponsored Kyran Bracken Skate School.
