Sure is delighted to announce that the Market Square will be home to Kyran Bracken’s Ice Rink for four weeks this Christmas time.

The ice rink will be open for public skating from 12th December to 5th January and there will be a number of opportunities in the run up to the opening for people to win free skating tickets as well as a pair of ice skates signed by Dancing on Ice star and ex-England rugby player Kyran Bracken.

Sure Skate is being organised in conjunction with Kyran Bracken’s Ice Party and local company Terrace Promotions as well as sponsors Sure and co-sponsors Nokia Siemens Networks. Enthusiastic support has been received from a number of States bodies and the parish Constables.

Since his win on the popular ITV1 show in 2007, Kyran has toured the country performing to thousands of skating fans in his own show, Kyran Bracken’s Ice Party. The decision to come to Guernsey follows a number of very successful events in Jersey including the Ice Party spin-off, Skate School, which took place in Jersey this summer and was also sponsored by Sure.

It is a number of years since Guernsey families were last treated to an ice rink and it is expected to be a big hit.

Eddie Saints, Sure’s Chief Executive said: “Sure is absolutely thrilled to have secured an ice rink for Guernsey this Christmas. This is a major investment from our company to create an event which the whole community can enjoy, as part of our commitment to the people of Guernsey.”

“It will be a fantastic family attraction and the Market Square is a delightful choice of venue. It will really add some magic to Christmas in the island and we hope that it will encourage lots of families to come into town and make the most of the festivities. See you on the ice!”

Kyran Bracken added:
“This is an exciting project for my team – the first time we’ve been to Guernsey. I’m delighted to be bringing ice skating back to Guernsey after a number of years alongside Sure and Terrace Promotions. I hope we’ll see thousands of islanders taking to the ice over Christmas!”

The local organiser of the event is Sonia Taylor of Terrace Promotions, who first met with Sure in 2008 to suggest an ice rink for Guernsey. She said:

“We are thrilled to have been involved in bringing this project to fruition and co-ordinating the use of the Market Buildings facilities with Sure and Kyran Bracken for this fantastic event.”

Sure Skate is has the support of surrounding businesses in the Market Square and Brett Allen of McAulay (Market Buildings) Ltd is delighted to see the area being used for a variety of different events.

“The use of the Market Square in this way strengthens the town as a nodal centre for the Guernsey people and visitors to the island. “We are particularly delighted that this is the venue for the Sure Skate ice rink over the festive period and are very pleased to facilitate the event by investing in the addition of an exclusive electric power provision for this and future events to be held in the area."

An online booking facility is currently being finalised at http://www.sureskate.com/ where skaters can book their session in advance. Sure customers will receive a 50% ticket discount at ‘Sure Skaters’ sessions: Monday 6.20pm – 7.20pm, Wednesday 5-6pm and Friday 1-2pm. These sessions will be available to book from Monday 26th October. Sure customers will be sent a text before this date containing a code which entitles them to utilise the promotion.
